About Star Wares

A supply house learns what to stock by watching what comes back, and over time the same handles keep coming back for the same reasons.

Wood splits along the grain once it has been through enough wash cycles. Inexpensive nylon softens and deforms against the edge of a hot pan. Bare steel takes the coating off a nonstick surface within a season, and then the pan comes back too. Silicone moulded over a steel core does none of those three things, which is why it has ended up occupying most of the rack at Star Wares.

The range runs from single tools — spatulas, spoonulas, turners, whisks, locking tongs, pasta servers — through multi-piece sets with acacia or stainless handles, to mixing bowls, antimicrobial cutting boards, an oven mitt and a full granite-coated nonstick cookware set at the top of the range.

Heat ratings are printed on the listings and are meant to be read as a ceiling for sustained contact, not a target to cook at. Light-coloured silicone will pick up colour from tomato and turmeric; that is cosmetic, it washes out with a hot cycle, and it does not affect how the tool performs.

The counter is at 1133 W Glenoaks Blvd, Glendale, CA 91202, United States, open Mon 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM | Tue-Fri 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM | Sat 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM | Sun closed, and stock ships from the same address.

Why silicone took over the rack

It will not scoreNo bare metal edge means coated pans survive it.
